If you have installed some graphics drivers on your Laptop PC or it has been upgraded automatically, you may have come through the problem of brightness options stopped working properly and you may not be able to adjust (increase or decrease) the brightness of the screen which became very high. The windows functions key may only showing you that it is changing but you may not see any changes in the brightness at all.

This tutorial will help you to get rid of the problem and fix the issue in few small steps and you can adjust brightness as usual.

Steps to fix brightness or graphics issue:

Step 1: Go to Device Manager from the Start Menu

Step 2: Go to Display adapters and select properties

Step 2.2: Now select Properties

Step 3: Go to Drivers
Step 3: Go to Drivers, Click on Update Driver and select the second option" Browse my computer for driver software"

Step 4: Now Click on " Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer "
Step 4: Now Click on Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer "

Step 5: Now select " Microsoft Basic Display Adapter "
Step 5: Now select Microsoft Basic Display Adapter "


You are done!..
Now you can adjust the brightness using the Fn+F11 or Fn+F12 key (depending on your hardware). This issue is tested and fixed properly on HCL ME L1114 Notebook with Windows 8.1 32-bit OS. Only test this trick if you have problem with your device graphics drivers and if you are not able to adjust the brightness at all.

If you want to get back to your old graphics drivers you can redo again with the same steps above and select your appropriate hardware adapter and proceed next to reconfigure it and install.
