Finally Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has mandated telecom service providers (TSPs) to offer a special roaming tariff plan which will come into effect from 1st May 2015.
The new tariff structure is going to reduce call charges during national roaming by 20 percent and messaging (SMS) charges by 75 percent as compared to the existing plans.
TRAI has regulated the telecom operators to charge not more than 45p/min for Incoming, 25p/Local SMS, 38p/STD SMS, 80p/min for local call and Rs.1.15 for STD calls per minute. The charges may be less than the regulated price.
Currently the charges for national roaming in India is Rs.1.50/min STD outgoing calls, Rs.1 for local, Rs.1.50/SMS local or STD.
These changes in roaming tariff will come into effect from May 1st next month. All the current plans will be revised as per the TRAI regulations.
